Moisturizer is not supposed to be character-building.
If something you normally put on comfortably suddenly stings, your skin barrier may be telling you it is irritated.
Why does damaged skin sting?
Your outer skin barrier normally limits how deeply substances penetrate and protects the more sensitive tissue underneath.
When that barrier becomes disrupted, things that previously felt completely fine can suddenly burn.
Even water can sting badly irritated skin.
So if your favourite moisturizer suddenly feels spicy?
Look at what happened before the moisturizer.

Should you push through?
Not if it actually hurts.
“Tingling means it's working” has done a lot of damage in skincare.
Sometimes tingling means:
this is irritating my skin.
If your face is burning, rinse it off.
What to do instead
Go boring.
Gentle cleansing.
Minimal products.
No exfoliation for a bit.
Give the skin time to stop being angry before you begin introducing experiments again.
Your face does not need to earn resilience through suffering.
