If you search “tallow eczema,” you will find some enormous promises.

Let's make this considerably less dramatic.

Tallow is not an eczema treatment.

Eczema is a medical condition with multiple forms, triggers and treatment options.

What is relevant is that eczema-prone skin is often extremely dry, and keeping it well moisturized is a standard part of caring for it.

That is where tallow enters the conversation.

Eczema-prone skin tends to lose water easily

The outer barrier of eczema-prone skin does not retain water as effectively as healthy skin.

This contributes to that familiar dry, tight, itchy feeling.

Rich creams and ointment-type moisturizers are commonly preferred over very light lotions because they do a better job of leaving a protective layer over the skin.

A tallow-based moisturizer can play that cosmetic role.

Keep the formula boring

If skin is already reactive, this is not where I get excited about fifteen extracts, fragrance and an “active complex.”

I want boring.

Simple.

Comfortable.

Something you can use consistently.

Apply after bathing

One of the most useful habits for very dry skin is also one of the least exciting:

moisturize after bathing while the skin is still slightly damp.

You've just introduced water.

Now help slow its escape.

Watch for irritation

Eczema-prone skin can react to all kinds of ingredients — natural or synthetic.

If something burns, worsens redness or consistently makes your skin feel worse, stop using it.

And if you're dealing with persistent, painful, infected, weeping or severe eczema, that's not a moisturizer-selection problem.

Get medical help.

Where I land

I would never tell someone that tallow treats eczema.

I would say this:

If your eczema-prone skin is chronically dry, rich fragrance-free moisturization matters.

Tallow is one way to formulate a rich moisturizer.

Then your individual skin decides whether it likes it.
