The Spring Skin Reset: What I’m Doing for My Skin (And What I’m Not)

The Spring Skin Reset: What I’m Doing for My Skin (And What I’m Not)

The Spring Skin Reset: Why Your Skin Needs Rhythm, Not More Products

Every year around this time, I feel the shift—more light, more energy, more life. My skin feels it too. After months of heavy balm, cold air, and too much time inside, it needs a reset. But not the kind you’ll find on most skincare shelves.

I’m not exfoliating harder.
I’m not layering on more serums.
I’m not trying to fix my face.

Instead, I’m letting spring guide the rhythm. Here’s what my Spring Skin Reset looks like this year—simple, seasonal, and rooted in what actually supports my skin from the inside out.

1. I'm Following the Light (Literally)

The first thing I change in spring isn’t a product—it’s my morning routine. I try to step outside within 30 minutes of waking, even if it’s just for a few minutes on the porch with my coffee. That early light does more for my skin than any product I’ve ever used.

It helps reset my circadian rhythm, which supports everything from oil production to melatonin (one of the most powerful antioxidants your skin has). More sunlight in the morning, and dimmer lights at night, is one of the most skin-supportive routines I’ve found.

2. I’m Swapping, Not Stacking

I don’t overhaul my products in spring—but I do shift with the season. In winter, I lean into thicker balms to hold in moisture and buffer against cold air. But now, I want things that nourish without smothering.

Right now, I’m using:

  • Copper Balm on my face at night—especially on days I’ve been in the sun. It’s rich but never heavy, and the minerals feel especially helpful as I transition out of the dry season.

  • Frankincense Face in the morning—it sinks in quickly, feels grounding, and never leaves a residue.

  • Fatbaby on my kids (and sometimes me) when our skin needs a little extra love. It’s still my favorite postpartum everything-balm.

What I’m not doing? Layering. I don’t do toners, essences, hyaluronic acid, then moisturizer, then SPF. I keep it minimal, seasonal, and let my skin do what it’s made to do.

3. I’m Eating and Living for Skin, Not Just Treating It

This reset isn’t just about what I put on my skin—it’s about how I support my body overall. Spring makes me want to move more, eat lighter, and reconnect with nature after being cooped up. And all of that shows up in my skin.

What’s been helpful lately:

  • Hydrating foods like rich broths

  • Lots of outdoor movement, especially walking with my kids

  • Organ meats (I’m freeze-drying my own for this soon)

  • More magnesium (usually topically with FATSKN) and salt to calm the nervous system after a long, tense winter

I’ve learned that when I support my sleep, digestion, and light exposure, I don’t need much skincare.

This Is My Real Reset

Not a detox. Not a routine overhaul. Not a shopping spree.

Just a slow shift into a season that supports my skin’s natural repair and rhythm. It’s a reminder that my skin isn’t broken or something to manage—it just gets out of sync sometimes.

This spring, I’m choosing simplicity. Rhythm. And trust in my body.

A quick note:

This is what I’m doing based on what’s worked for me, my skin, and my overall health. It’s not medical advice, and I always encourage people to tune in to their own needs, work with trusted practitioners when needed, and take what’s helpful while leaving the rest.
